May Message From the Exalted Ruler

Members,

April was the first meeting of the new BOD/BOG this fiscal year. We accomplished much last year and hope to continue that trend. Your Trustees for this year include Craig Taylor, Natalie Dimitruck, Albert Stadelmaier, Andy Broadus and myself. As mentioned during the last two Lodge meetings, the sale of the Shriner property next door continues on and the Developer has approached our Lodge in hopes of renting/leasing 10 parking spots. Presently, we are in discussions with the Developer and should have more information to report soon. We also had a chance to meet with an asphalt contractor from Albuquerque, who is currently doing work in our area. While we do not have capital for such an improvement at this time, many members felt it a good idea to have a baseline for what it would cost. For all prep, site work, drainage, striping and finishing the estimate is $72k. This includes 3” of asphalt, which is what is used for truck stops or similar lots that see heavy vehicle traffic. If anyone has creative ideas as to how we could make it happen, we are all ears. A paved lot is a long time wish list item for our Lodge.

On other fronts, we recently completed an expensive repair to the draft beer cooler due to a compressor failure. There are also a few issues with broken or cracked windows, which we plan to address now that the weather is warmer. As we mentioned in the St. Patty’s Day Reverse Raffle, the Lodge is in need of funds to address some of these unexpected repairs. In coordination with our Bar Manager, Mark Sandoval, we will host two more reverse raffles this year - A Labor Day All-American Reverse Raffle complete with traditional American backyard picnic food of hamburgers, hot dogs, apple pie and more.

Secondly, we tentatively plan to host another reverse raffle in December approximately two weeks before Christmas. Planning is just beginning for these events but they will benefit Lodge Improvements. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we look forward to serving you and our Lodge this year. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns.

As many of you are probably aware this has been a sad time these past few weeks with the loss of a couple of our members, Mitch Goldberg and Dwight Ray. This has had direct personal effect on many of our Lodge officers. We appreciate all the support our members have given us during these difficult times and appreciate your understanding as we have had to redirect our time to deal with this events. Our officers will be back in full swing this coming month.

Fraternally Yours,
Tim TJ Haight, Chairman, and Kirk Hollis, Loyal Knight on behalf of Brett Ray

We lost one of our charter members and the father to Brett Ray, our current ER. Dwight Ray passed away on April 19. Dwight was a two-time Exalted Ruler of our Lodge, serving 1966-67 and 1991-92. He served as BPOE New Mexico State President in 1983-84, and he was District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler before he became state president. He continued to be an active member of our Lodge and will be greatly missed. Please keep Shirley, Brett and Bryan in your thoughts and prayers.

Mitch Goldberg passed away on April 18. Mitch just recently become a member of our Lodge and was a good friend of many of our members. Over the past few years, he had been involved in many Lodge events. Please keep his family in your prayers.
